La Puente has no freeway inside its three and a half square miles, and that is the problem. The 10 runs a mile north, the 60 a mile south, the 605 to the west, and the City of Industry’s warehouses wrap around the edges. Every truck getting from one freeway to the other, or to a dock on Valley Boulevard, drives through La Puente on Hacienda, Azusa, Puente Avenue or Valley itself. When one of them hurts you, a La Puente truck accident lawyer who knows those streets and answers his own phone makes a difference. Francisco Morales handles the case himself, in English or Spanish. No fee unless we win.

Call (626) 521-5402Free case reviewInland Empire freight bound for Los Angeles and the ports comes west on the 10 and the 60, and the City of Industry, with more than 3,000 businesses and almost no residents, sits between them. La Puente is the neighborhood those trucks cross. The city’s own code names eight streets as truck routes, and the crashes happen on those streets, at the freeway ramps just outside the city line, and on the 605 where the Valley Boulevard interchange is being torn out and rebuilt.
| Where | What happens there |
|---|---|
| Valley Boulevard, the old truck highway | Valley Boulevard was the road between Los Angeles and Pomona before the freeways, and it still carries tractor-trailers past La Puente’s south side, the Union Pacific tracks and the Industry warehouses. It is a designated truck route end to end. On January 26, 2026, a car fleeing sheriff’s deputies from Hacienda Heights hit a semi trailer at Valley and Ardilla Avenue, and both people inside had to be cut out of the wreck. Trucks turning across Valley into and out of docks, and cars rear-ending a trailer stopped for a driveway, are the everyday pattern. |
| Hacienda Boulevard and Azusa Avenue, the freeway cut-throughs | These are the two north-south truck routes between the 10 and the 60, and drivers use them to skip the 605 when it backs up. Hacienda runs from the 60 in Industry through the middle of La Puente to Valley and then Francisquito and the 10. Azusa Avenue does the same on the east side and continues as Highway 39. Both are six lanes with left turns across three, and both have schools, apartments and shopping centers on them. A loaded rig timing a yellow light on a downgrade is the crash we see most on these streets. |
| Puente Avenue and the 10 at Puente, Vincent and Azusa | Puente Avenue is the third truck route north out of the city, and it meets the 10 at a short, crowded interchange shared with Baldwin Park and West Covina. On September 3, 2026, a Honda Civic and a FedEx big rig collided on the westbound 10 at the Puente Avenue off-ramp. Three weeks later a big rig leaking from crushed 250-gallon containers shut the eastbound 10 at the Pacific Avenue on-ramp for a hazardous materials cleanup. Caltrans counts close to 14,000 trucks a day on this stretch of the 10. |
| The 605 and the Valley Boulevard interchange | The 605 at Valley Boulevard is where La Puente, Bassett and Industry meet, and it is one of the worst interchanges in the county for trucks. Caltrans and Metro found crash rates 30 to 74 percent above the statewide average and turn paths too tight for a tractor-trailer. A $48 million rebuild started in May 2025 and runs about three years, with the old horseshoe ramp coming out and wider signalized ramps going in. Until it is done, drivers deal with shifted lanes, closed shoulders and trucks making turns the road was never built for. |
| The 60 through Industry, at Hacienda and Azusa | The Pomona Freeway carries more trucks than any other road near La Puente, about 22,500 a day at the 605 and rising to the east. The Hacienda Boulevard and Azusa Avenue ramps are where those trucks leave the freeway for La Puente. On December 12, 2024, a big rig and another vehicle collided on the northbound 605 at the eastbound 60 connector before dawn; the truck caught fire, fuel spilled across the lanes and the driver was hospitalized. Rear-end crashes into slowed traffic at the connector are the freeway version of the problem. |
| Amar Road, Sunset Avenue and Francisquito | The rest of the city’s truck route network runs through residential La Puente: Amar Road past the Donut Hole and the high school, Sunset Avenue, Azusa Way, and Francisquito Avenue west of Hacienda toward the CHP office in Baldwin Park. These are two-lane streets with driveways, bus stops and crosswalks. When a truck over three tons is off that network, on a side street between Hacienda and Azusa to skip a signal, the ordinance itself becomes evidence of negligence. |

La Puente Municipal Code section 6.48.050 restricts any vehicle over three tons to eight designated routes: Puente Avenue, Sunset Avenue, Hacienda Boulevard, Azusa Avenue, Azusa Way, Francisquito Avenue west of Hacienda, Amar Road and Valley Boulevard. A tractor-trailer on a residential street off that list is breaking a safety rule, and in California a safety-rule violation that causes a crash is negligence per se. It also tells us to ask what the carrier’s dispatch was telling the driver to do.
Two recent crashes on La Puente’s edges show the pattern. On January 26, 2026, a driver fleeing Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies crashed into a semi trailer at Valley Boulevard and Ardilla Avenue, trapping two people until crews cut them out. On September 3, 2026, a Honda Civic and a FedEx big rig collided on the westbound 10 at the Puente Avenue off-ramp, and on September 23 a leaking big rig closed the eastbound 10 at Pacific Avenue for a hazmat cleanup. The CHP investigated all three.
The company that owns the truck has an insurer, a lawyer and a set of federal rules it either followed or broke. The proof of what happened is stored on its truck. Each of those changes how the case has to be built from the first day.
The rigs on the 10 and the 60 are mostly interstate carriers, and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations apply to them. A driver gets eleven hours of driving inside a fourteen-hour window with a thirty-minute break under Part 395, must be qualified under Part 391 and tested under Part 382, and the truck has to be inspected and maintained under Part 396. When a violation caused the crash on Hacienda or Valley, California treats it as negligence per se. The carrier has to explain why the rule was broken instead of you having to prove what a careful driver would have done.
A car in California can be insured for $30,000 per person, which does not cover a night in a trauma unit. A truck over 10,001 pounds hauling general freight across state lines must carry at least $750,000 in liability coverage under 49 CFR 387.9, and $5 million for certain hazardous loads, like the containers that shut the 10 at Pacific Avenue in September. Most carriers add excess policies on top. The money exists to pay for a serious injury, and the adjuster knows it, which is why the argument is about fault rather than bills.
In the Industry warehouse district, a driver may work for a small carrier, pull a trailer owned by a leasing company, haul a load a broker in Ontario arranged, and deliver to a distribution center that loaded and sealed the trailer. Each of those companies can share fault and each has its own policy. Finding all of them is the first job, because the carrier will try to make its driver the only defendant.
A carrier only has to keep electronic driver logs for six months. The engine’s data can be overwritten once the truck goes back to work, and dash-cam video is deleted on a rolling schedule. The insurer’s investigator will be at a serious crash on the 60 the same day. We send a written preservation demand to the carrier, the broker and the insurer within days, so that if evidence disappears afterward, the jury hears why.
The trucking company’s insurer usually has an adjuster and an accident reconstructionist on a serious crash the same day. This is what we go after so the case is built on the truck’s own records, not the driver’s version.
The driver’s hours for the trip and the seven days before it. A driver who started in Fontana at 4 a.m. and is still working on Valley Boulevard at dark either has a compliant log or an edited one.
Speed, throttle, braking and following distance in the seconds before impact. On a rear-end crash into stopped traffic at the Puente Avenue ramp, it answers whether the truck could have stopped.
Most fleets run cameras facing both ways. A frame of the driver looking at a phone coming down Hacienda Boulevard changes a case.
License history, medical card, prior crashes and citations, training records and the background check the carrier was required to run before it put this driver on the road.
Federal rules require testing after a crash with a death, an injury treated away from the scene, or a tow. We confirm the test happened on time and get the result.
Brake and tire records, the pre-trip inspection, the bill of lading, the scale ticket and the dispatch messages that show where the driver was told to go and how fast.
For speeding, tailgating, an unsafe lane change, running a signal on Hacienda or Azusa, leaving the designated truck route, distraction, fatigue or impairment. California also limits any vehicle with three or more axles or a trailer to 55 miles an hour and the right-hand lanes under Vehicle Code 22406.
The company whose USDOT number is on the door answers for its driver’s negligence and for its own: hiring a driver with a bad record, dispatching him past the hours limit, or keeping a truck with worn brakes in service. We check the carrier’s federal safety record before the first call with its adjuster.
A broker that hands loads to carriers with poor safety scores can be liable for negligent selection. A warehouse in Industry that loaded and sealed the trailer can be liable when a shifting or overweight load caused the crash.
The tractor and the trailer often belong to different companies, and a leasing company or a contract shop that signed off on a bad tire or a failing brake becomes a defendant with its own insurance.
Brake failures, tire blowouts and trailers without proper rear underride guards support product liability claims against the companies that built or sold them.
The 605 at Valley Boulevard is an active construction zone through 2028. When a lane shift, a missing sign, a bad signal or a temporary ramp contributed to the crash, a government claim must be filed within six months under Government Code 911.2. We calendar that deadline the day we open the file.
The companies responsible for the truck owe the full cost of what the crash did to you, not the figure the adjuster offers in the first week. In a truck case that usually includes:
Under California’s pure comparative negligence rule, a share of fault reduces the recovery by that share; it does not bar the claim. Immigration status has no bearing on any of it.

Search for a La Puente truck accident attorney and most of the results are downtown Los Angeles firms and out-of-town networks running the same page for every city in California. Morales Law Firm is on Bonita Avenue in San Dimas, about fourteen miles east on the 10. Francisco Morales grew up in West Covina, on the other side of Valley Boulevard from La Puente, graduated from UCLA and Loyola Law School, and worked as a certified automotive service consultant before he became a lawyer, which matters when the argument is about brakes, stopping distance and what a truck’s data actually shows. He is fully bilingual in English and Spanish, he answers his own phone, and he does not hand truck cases to a case manager. More about Francisco.

Answers to what La Puente clients ask us first. If your question is not here, call and ask the attorney directly.
La Puente contracts with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, so a crash on Valley Boulevard, Hacienda, Azusa Avenue, Amar Road or any other city street is handled by deputies from the Industry Station at 150 N. Hudson Ave. A crash on the 10, the 60 or the 605 belongs to the California Highway Patrol’s Baldwin Park Area office on Francisquito Avenue. We get the report either way, and on a serious freeway crash we find out whether the CHP’s Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team responded, because its file has measurements the standard report does not.
Nothing up front. We work on a contingency fee, a percentage of the recovery that is paid only when the case resolves. If there is no recovery there is no attorney’s fee. We advance the cost of accident reconstruction, engineers, medical witnesses, records and depositions while the case is open, and the first consultation is free. The trucking company’s insurer handles truck claims every day and you are handling one once, so make the call before you give a recorded statement.
La Puente is in the East District of the Los Angeles Superior Court, so a serious injury case is filed as an unlimited civil case at the Pomona Courthouse South, 400 Civic Center Plaza. Small claims for La Puente addresses go to the West Covina Courthouse on West Covina Parkway. If the carrier is based out of state, which many are, it may move the case to federal court in downtown Los Angeles, and we plan for that from the start.
About fourteen miles, twenty to twenty-five minutes. Take the 10 east to the 57 north and exit Bonita Avenue, or take Valley Boulevard east to Pomona and go north on Garey to Arrow Highway. We are at 151 W. Bonita Ave. in downtown San Dimas with free parking. Francisco also meets La Puente clients at home or at the hospital when driving is not an option after a crash.

Two years from the crash to file a lawsuit for injuries or wrongful death under Code of Civil Procedure 335.1. If Caltrans, Metro, the County or the City contributed to the crash, for example through the construction zone at the 605 and Valley Boulevard, a government claim is due within six months under Government Code 911.2. The useful deadline is shorter than either, because the carrier only has to keep the driver’s logs for six months and the truck’s data can be gone in days.
The weight, the rules, the money and the evidence. An 80,000-pound rig does damage a car cannot, so the injuries are worse. The company that runs the truck must follow federal hours, drug testing, hiring and maintenance rules, and breaking one is negligence per se. It carries at least $750,000 in coverage and usually far more. And it holds the log, the engine data and the video that show what happened, and sends investigators to the scene the same day. The case is won by getting that evidence early.
Yes. La Puente Municipal Code section 6.48.050 limits vehicles over three tons to eight designated streets: Puente, Sunset, Hacienda, Azusa Avenue, Azusa Way, Francisquito west of Hacienda, Amar and Valley. A semi on a residential street between them to avoid a signal or a backup is violating a safety ordinance, and in California a safety-rule violation that causes a crash is negligence per se. We also pull the carrier’s dispatch and GPS records to see whether the company was routing drivers that way.
That is the standard defense, and the truck’s own equipment usually answers it. The forward camera, the engine control module and the electronic log show the truck’s speed, braking and following distance in the seconds before impact. If the rig was over the 55 mile-an-hour truck limit on the 60 or tailgating on Azusa Avenue, the picture changes. California follows pure comparative negligence, so even if you carry part of the fault, your recovery is reduced by that share rather than eliminated.
Yes. Box trucks, Amazon and FedEx vans, refrigerated trucks and flatbeds out of the City of Industry are commercial vehicles driven for a company, and any truck over 10,001 pounds in interstate commerce is under the same federal safety rules as a semi. The harder question is which company answers for the driver, because delivery contractors, leasing companies and the brand on the side of the truck are often three different businesses. We identify all of them and their insurers on day one.
Yes. Go to Queen of the Valley in West Covina, Inter-Community in Covina or Kaiser Baldwin Park right after the crash, or to Pomona Valley Hospital for a serious injury. After that we arrange treatment with orthopedists, physical therapists, chiropractors and imaging centers in the San Gabriel Valley who treat on a lien and are paid from the settlement. Immigration status does not affect your right to treatment or to a recovery.
